I roam the wind swept lands of Mother Earth with the quiet steps the Great Spirit ordained me to have-to fulfill His purpose-to be what I am meant to be: the symbol of the hunter-although-I have become the hunted in times past-and in times that are with me now.

There is but one place for me and for my kind; within the shadows of the tall trees and the grand mountains that kiss the big blue sky-and under the light of Sister Moon to guide my path-a sure footed path-with every step I take; there can be no mistake.

This was once our land-and this was once our kingdom-before the two-leggeds came and took over; driving us away from the place that we loved-to suit their own vain purpose-leaving us to become the hated hunted-and to be feared because we were so strong and meant to be free-like our friend Brother Wind-who tells us when danger and yet our prey may venture here. He remains free-not we-for he cannot be seen nor can he be harnessed, killed or broken like the twigs upon the ground and made to burn inside a fire.

You have learned to fear us-for we are yet still strong in our aloneness-with the protection of this fear-which we only know as being alive-as we cry out to Sister Moon-giving our thanks for her watching over our path-that we may know we are not worthless like a cast away stone; we are not alone . . .

I am the Greywolf: Brother to the stars in the black sky above-Brother to the tireless, invisible wind-Brother to the wildest of the wild-Brother to the others of our kind-Brother to the Buffalo who all know us-Brother to the Eagle who soars in high regard-Brother to the heartbeat of Mother Earth and Sister Moon-Brother to the ones who share our great desires-Brother to the cubs who have lost their way, for we will be their care givers, when all has gone away-Brother to the two-leggeds who share our name and skills in the cold and dead of winter-Brother to the music  we sing as the ones before us sang, that we may sing for you.

I am the Greywolf: hunted-hated-loved and admired-since the beginning of time.

I am the Greywolf-and this is my song . . .
